Limits on Neutrino Radiative Decay from Sn1987a
نویسنده
چکیده
We calculate limits on the properties of neutrinos using data from gammaray detectors on the Pioneer Venus Orbiter and Solar Max Mission satellites. A massive neutrino decaying in flight from the supernova would produce gamma rays detectable by these instruments. The lack of such a signal allows us to constrain the mass, radiative lifetime, and branching ratio to photons of a massive neutrino species produced in the supernova.

Gamma Rays and the Decay of Neutrinos from SN1987A
We calculate limits to the properties of massive, unstable neutrinos using data from gamma-ray detectors on the Pioneer Venus Orbiter Satellite; a massive neutrino emitted from SN1987A that decayed in flight and produced gamma rays would be detectable by this instruments. The lack of such a signal allows us to constrain the branching ratio to photons (Bγ), mass (mν), and radiative lifetime (τγ ...
متن کاملAbsolute Values of Neutrino Masses: Status and Prospects
Compelling evidences in favor of neutrino masses and mixing obtained in the last years in Super-Kamiokande, SNO, KamLAND and other neutrino experiments made the physics of massive and mixed neutrinos a frontier field of research in particle physics and astrophysics. There are many open problems in this new field. In this review we consider the problem of the absolute values of neutrino masses, ...
متن کاملSearch for neutrino radiative decays during a total solar eclipse
We present the results of the measurements performed in the occasion of the 2001 total solar eclipse, looking for visible photons emitted through a possible radiative decay of solar neutrinos. We establish lower limits for the ν2 and ν3 proper lifetimes above 10 s/eV, for neutrino masses larger than 10 eV.
متن کاملSearch for possible neutrino radiative decays during the 2001 total solar eclipse
We present the results of the observations performed in the occasion of the June 21, 2001 total solar eclipse, looking for visible photons emitted through a possible radiative decay of solar neutrinos. We establish lower limits for the ν2 or ν3 proper lifetimes τ0/m ≥ 10 3 s/eV, for neutrino masses larger than 10−2 eV.
متن کاملNew Limits to the IR Background: Bounds on Radiative Neutrino Decay and on VMO Contributions to the Dark Matter Problem
From considering the effect of γ-γ interactions on recently observed TeV gamma-ray spectra, improved limits are set to the density of extragalactic infrared (IR) photons which are robust and essentially modelindependent. The resulting limits are up to two orders of magnitude more restrictive than direct observations in the 0.025-0.3 eV regime. These limits are used to improve constraints on rad...
